Talk on Network Radio and Zello, by Paul

In the club’s tradition of interesting talks, members were treated to a talk and brief demonstration by Paul on the subject of Network Radio and the Zello application at the Pyewipe shack on Friday. Paul explained that Network Radio provides a 1-to-1 or 1-to-many “press to talk” style of communication, transported via the mobile phone network. The use of the mobile phone network means that common use cases allow global communications without requiring an amateur radio licence.

Even for licensed amateurs, Network Radio may still be useful in situations where it would be impossible to erect amateur radio antennas. Pauls' talk explored the use of the Zello application on Android mobile phones, and on other devices that have a conventional radio form-factor.

A lively discussion in the shack followed the talk!
